Jewellery Care

PLEASE NOTE: Extra care must be taken when cleaning and polishing jewellery with gems and precious stones. Try not to polish, scratch or rub the stones when polishing and cleaning your jewellery pieces. You can take your jewellery piece to a local jeweller to be cleaned and polished if you want to take extra caution.

Solid Gold and Gold Filled:

Gold filled jewellery has a stronger and thicker permanent gold bond and is higher in quality compared to gold plated yet is still more affordable than solid gold. If looked after correctly it can last a lifetime and won't be affected by water or weather and will not flake, peel or fall off. However as with all jewellery care needs to be taken and your gold filled item needs to be looked after.

Cleaning and polishing:

You can clean your gold and gold filled jewellery by using gentle and mild warm soapy water and gently scrub over the piece with a soft toothbrush. This will remove any unwanted dirt and residue and can result in a lovely clean finish bringing back a bit of shine.

To polish you can use a soft cotton cloth or a jewellery polishing microfibre cloth. We recommend Town Talk Gold Polishing Cloth to bring your jewellery to a lovely polished finish.

Sterling Silver Jewellery:

The majority of our silver jewellery is made using recycled 925 sterling silver.

Silver will naturally tarnish over time which can have a desired effect on jewellery. However to bring your silver jewellery back to a clean and polished look you can use a gentle soap in warm water and use a soft toothbrush to gently clean your jewellery.

After cleaning you can polish your silver jewellery piece using either a soft cotton cloth or a jewellery polishing microfibre cloth.

We recommend using Town Talk Silver Polishing Cloth to bring your silver jewellery back to a polished finish.

Copper and Brass Jewellery:

Much like silver, copper and brass will tarnish over time which can add to the visual effect of the piece giving a raw and organic feel, highlighting texture.

However to bring your brass and copper jewellery back to a slightly more polished and clean finish you can gently clean them with a soft toothbrush in warm mild soapy water.

You can also use baking soda with lemon juice or full strength white vinegar to clean copper and brass. There are multiple tutorials online for this process that you can follow.

Gemstones and precious stones:

You can gently clean gemstones and precious stones using warm soapy water. Be sure to use a gentle and mild soap or dishwashing liquid. Using a soft toothbrush you can gently scrub the gemstone and pat dry.

Pearls and Shells:

When cleaning pearls or shell jewellery extra care needs to be taken as they have a very different surface to gemstones and metals.

We recommend using water alone and using a very gentle lint free soft cotton cloth afterwards.

For extra precaution consider taking your shell or pearl jewellery to a professional jeweller to be cleaned.
